Funded by the federal programme Demokratie leben! (Live Democracy!), the Wertraum project has been implementing group programmes for prisoners and training courses for prison staff and probation officers since 2020 with the aim of contributing to democratic education and the prevention of extremism.

The aim of the evaluation is to provide information and suggestions for the further development of the programmes. Specifically, the evaluation focuses on answering the following questions:


What goals are being pursued with which educational and professional approaches and to what extent are these approaches suitable for achieving the objectives of the group programmes?

Which framework conditions are necessary for the achievement of the objectives and can they be positively influenced?

How do the training courses for prison staff and probation officers and the information brochures produced by the project contribute to this?

As part of the evaluation, protocols of the offers are subjected to a content analysis, a standardised survey of prisoners is carried out and interviews are conducted with employees in the various prisons in which the project provides offers.
